Next step was to cut all the strips. Crazy patchwork generally involves having a central shape (often five or six sided) that is then progressively bordered with randomly chosen strips. The strips are usually cut wider at one end than the other to add to the irregularity of the blocks. And I've still got a supermarket bag worth of cut strips left over, so if I want to go crazy again, I've got the option.
